According to football.london, Chelsea left-back Baba Rahman is in advance talks to leave Stamford Bridge this January with ‘two overseas clubs’ in the mix to fight for the Ghanaian’s signature.
Rahman has struggled to earn regular football at Chelsea since completing a five-year contract for undisclosed fee move from German side Augsburg in August 2015.
The 26-year old made his debut in Chelsea’s 4-0 Champions League home win against Maccabi Tel Aviv in September but the Blues’ appointment of Antonio Conte hampered Baba Rahman’s progress at Stamford Bridge.
At the very beginning of the Italian’s period at Chelsea (2016-2017 season, Conte loaned out the then young but ready-to-learn Ghanaian International to FC Schalke 04 after failing to impress in pre-season.
And Rahman has not come close breaking into Chelsea’s first team again further going out on loan at Reims and Real Mallorca between 2017 and 2020. Last season, the Black Stars left-back spent the entire period with Mallorca making only five appearances for the Laliga side in what was a worse season for the defender compared to previous loan spells in Germany.
Rahman has returned and found himself a new life with Chelsea’s development squad since beginning of the 2020-2021 season.
And despite training and impressing in his time with the U-23s with expectation to break into the first team under Frank Lampard, Rahman has not feature under the Chelsea legend as the English manager prepares to offload more of his surplus to requirement players.
Rahman is one of those players who could be on way out of Stamford Bridge this January but only on a loan move according to reports.
Rahman’s competitors at left-back, Marcus Alonso and Emerson Palmieri could all be shipped out by Frank Lampard after falling completely behind the pecking order with summer signing Ben Chilwell the boss’ first choice followed by César Azpilicueta.
While Alonso and Emerson have been linked with a move to Seria A with a reunion with Antonio Conte at Inter likely to be the next move on Spaniard and Italian’s career, Rahman could leave West London for Germany or Turkey according to a Futball Surgery’s source.
It’s understood that negotiations of German and Turkish clubs with Chelsea over Rahman’s six-months temporary move have already began and in advanced stage revealed by Goal.
Drinkwater is another falling-out star who could leave this January and has been linked with a move to Turkish Super Lig club Kasimpasa.
However, any imminent move has been denied with the £35m ($47m) signing from Leicester still looking to get his Blues career back on track.
