Fans have been wondering what Sadio Mane meant when he posted a clip of Watford’s Ismaila Sarr scoring against Liverpool online.
Fans have been left bemused by a bizarre social media post from Liverpool player Sadio Mane.
Mane ended a difficult season on a high by netting both Liverpool’s goals in the 2-0 win over Crystal Palace on the final day in the Premier League which secured Champions League qualification.
The game came just 10 days after Mane had seemingly snubbed manager Jurgen Klopp’s post-match congratulatory gesture when the Reds had beaten old foes Manchester United 4-2 at Old Trafford, a game in which the player had come off the bench as a second half substitute.
While that matter now appears to have been put to bed, Mane had Kopites scratching their heads once more by sharing a video with his 8.5million Instagram followers that showed his Senegalese compatriot Ismaila Sarr scoring for Watford against Liverpool back in February 2020.
The shock 3-0 defeat for the Reds that day was their first loss in 28 Premier League matches that campaign and ended their hopes of emulating Arsenal’s Invincibles.
Confused supporters duly took to Twitter to offer their own theories to the cryptic post.
Some wondered whether it means that the winger, who has been linked to Liverpool in the past, might actually be heading to Anfield.
Tanish said: “Mane dropping hints about us signing Sarr” while Abdul Muaz declared: “Sadio Mane just announcing SARR!!!
Porfirio Rubirosa remarked: “Means one of two things potentially 1. Sarr incoming 2. Mane Outgoing while a fan called Dylan wrote: “Mane’s Instagram got hacked by Sarr’s agent.”
Sarr’s agent has previously spoken out about how the Watford attacker came close to signing for Liverpool.
The Reds considered a move for Sarr last September but baulked at the asking price of around £40million for the player, with Watford refusing to consider negotiation on either the fee or method of payment.
Liverpool instead pursued their interest in Diogo Jota and agreed an initial £41m deal of which only around 10% was required to be paid across the next 12 months.
Sarr’s agent, Thierno Seydi, earlier this year claimed a move for the Senegal international was at an advanced stage before theylooked elsewhere.
“With Liverpool, we were at the stage of signing the contract to bind the Reds to Ismaila Sarr,” he said to Pan African Football.
“Everything was set, the monthly salary and the length of the deal. I even asked Sadio Mane to find him an apartment.”
