Egypt international Mahmoud Trezeguet has marked his return to Turkish football with an assist İstanbul Başakşehir’s victory over Gaziantep.
Just earlier last week, Trezeguet had completed a loan move to Turkish outfit İstanbul Başakşehir after falling down the pecking order at Aston Villa.
A no stranger to Turkish football, Trezeguet didn’t need time to adapt and was placed in the starting line-up directly as his club hosted Gaziantep in the 24th round of the Super Lig.
34 minutes is what it took the Egyptian to leave a mark with his new team after Stefano Okaka intercepted the ball from the defender for Trezeguet to put debutee Pizzi through on goal and the Portuguese international easily put the ball past the keeper.
The referee initially disallowed the goal for a foul on Okaka, but after consulting the VAR, the goal was awarded.
Trezeguet and Pizzi were brought off in the 77th minute for Fredrik Gulbrandsen and Ömer Ali Sahiner to mark the end of the Egyptian’s debut.
But that wasn’t the end of goals as new signing Serdar Gürler put the game to bed in the 87th minute to earn Başakşehir huge three points.
Başakşehir now sit fourth on the league table with 40 points behind third-placed Adana Demirspor on goal difference and 17 points behind leaders Trabzonspor. Their next game will see them take on 18th-placed Rizespor.
