Christopher Nkunku to join Chelsea in summer with ‘everything completed’ on transfer

Christopher Nkunku will join Chelsea next summer, with reportedly ‘everything completed’ for him to move to Stamford Bridge. The French forward has widely been reported to be a top target for the Blues and a deal appears to have been finalised.

Chelsea spent around £270million in the summer transfer window. It was new owner Todd Boehly’s first opportunity to put his stamp on the club following his takeover earlier this year.

But it appears the American is still prepared to splash the cash in an attempt to close the gap on the likes of Manchester City. Nkunku has been touted as a top target for Chelsea for a couple of months.

The 25-year-old has a release clause in his RB Leipzig contract of around £51.9million, an amount the Blues were prepared to pay. Chelsea were reported to have beaten rival competition to his signature.

And now French outlet Le10Sport claims everything has been agreed between the three parties. The report says Nkunku will become a Chelsea player on July 1 2023.

Nkunku only signed a new contract with Leipzig in June this year, extending his deal until 2026. However, the clause was inserted to enable him to get a move at a minimum price.

Chelsea are to activate the clause and make him their first signing next summer. There were reports that Chelsea wanted to bring Nkunku to the club earlier in January.

However, Le10 Sport says there is no chance that will happen and the player’s agent Pini Zahavi has only organised a summer exit. Nkunku recently suffered World Cup heartbreak, as he was ruled out of the tournament after suffering a knee injury in training with the France squad.

Leipzig confirmed their star man is set for a sustained period on the sidelines. A statement read: “Christo tore the lateral ligament in his left knee on November 15 while training with the French National team.

“It is unclear how long he will be out; there are several treatment options for this injury.”

It is clear to see why Chelsea identified Nkunku as a top target. Boehly is in the market for a goalscorer, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang yet to fire since his deadline day arrival in the summer.

Nkunku scored 35 goals in all competitions last season, by far his best return in his career to date. But he has proven it was not a one-off, as he already has 17 goals to his name this term.
