Group G Match Preview – Cameroon vs. Serbia

After losing 1-0 to Switzerland in their Group G opener at the World Cup, Cameroon face a daunting task when they play against Serbia at the Al Janoub Stadium on Monday.

The Indomitable Lions only progressed to the knockout round of the Mundial in 1990 and have since failed to achieve that feat.

Cameroon go into this game in Al Wakrah will a dismal run of results having lost all of their last eight World Cup matches, chasing an unwanted record of nine straight defeats held by Mexico.

Head coach Rigobert Song has managed just two wins in seven matches in all competitions since taking over the job from Portuguese trainer Antonio Conceicao.

The Indomitable Lions will only have their World Cup campaign still alive when they beat the Serbians.

Serbia are hopeful of returning to their form during the World Cup qualifications after they were handed a 2-0 loss by favourites Brazil in their first group match of the World Cup.

The Eagles were undefeated in World Cup qualifiers where they won 6 and drew 2 of their eight games in the a group which included Portugal.

The Serbians are keen on claiming a victory over Cameroon to revive their chances of advancing to the next round of the tournament.

However, the record against African oppositions in the World Cup remains a hoodoo. They lost to Ghana (2006) and Cote d’Ivoire (2010) during group stages.

Serbia could be dumped out of the tournament if they taste a defeat to Cameroon in Thursday’s fixture.
