President John Dramani Mahama has appointed three new chiefs to head security service institutions in Ghana, the presidency communication has announced on Friday.
Ghana’s provision of security to civilians organizations prison service, immigration service and fire service will be led by new Mahama appointments that came in the same event of swearing in Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the new IGP.
The new appointments mark continuation of the president’s mass appointments, since 66 days into office, to bold statement of restructuring and resetting a country plagued by economic crisis and threatened security.
On Friday, the presidency’s official mouthpiece Presidency Communications said in a statement that DDGP 3 Patience Baffoe-Bonnie will head Ghana’s prison service in what he comes to serve as the Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service.
Additionally, DCFO Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong will head the country’s fire service, as the Chief Fire Officer, and DCI Samuel Basentale Amadu will head the immigration service as the Comptroller-General of the Ghana Immigration Service.
The appointments come in conjunction with the swearing in ceremony of Ghana’s new Inspector General of Police (IGP) COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno at the presidential palace Jubilee House, Accra, in the days morning.
The event was attended by few invited individuals, traditional rulers, media, secretary to president, commissioners of the police service, and politicians including senior government officials, chief of staff, interior minister, defence minister and presidential advisor.
The new IGP Yohuno comes to replace departed George Akuffo-Dampare, who had led the police service since 2021 after being appointed by former President Akufo-Addo.
The briefing in the security services especially the police is expected to check and control inter city and area crimes armed robbery, snatching, stabbing, murdering, fraud, cyber crime and shooting that are hitting major cities Kumasi, Accra, Cape Coast and Takoradi.
The effect of the police new leadership is also expected in flow in with military operations in Ghana watch of extremist and insurgence inflow. Despite glimpses of threat from Burkina Faso armed groups, the country remains one of the peaceful and secured countries in the African region across international borders.
Just last week, there have been murder cases in Kumasi (with aniticipation in other areas) raising concerns of internal security where two Mobile Money operators in Kwadaso and Oforikrom townships each were killed by unknown attacks.
