Former president and National Democratic Congress (NDC) leading candidate for December’s presidential election John Dramani Mahama has described the upcoming 7 election as a critical turning point for Ghana.
Speaking to supporters at the final rally at Zurak Park in Madina, Accra, Mr Mahama noted the significance of the vote as a choice between the current state of the nation and a vision for a brighter, more prosperous future.
“Saturday’s election is not just another election. It is a defining moment for our nation. It is a choice between the Ghana we have and the Ghana we want—a Ghana of opportunity, prosperity, and justice for all,” he stated on Thursday, December 5.
The NDC flagbearer outlined his vision for the country, promising to create opportunities for all sectors of society. He pledged to foster a nation where young people’s voices will be heard, working people have access to sustainable, well-paying jobs, and entrepreneurs thrive in a free and fair market.
“Women and girls deserve true equality, safety, and the chance to reach their full potential,” he added.
To restore public trust, Mr Mahama vowed to implement bold reforms, including a lean government structure with not more than 60 ministers and deputy ministers.
Additionally, on corruption, he pledged to launch “Operation Return All Loot (ORAL),” a comprehensive initiative to recover stolen funds for national development. “We will wage a relentless war on corruption with dedicated zeal, retrieving stolen loot for the country’s development and the benefit of our youth,” he declared.
Again, Mr Mahama assured Ghanaians of economic measures to curb inflation, stabilise food prices, and build a 24-hour economy capable of creating millions of jobs, adding that “Every Ghanaian deserves leadership that puts the people first, fights corruption, and builds a nation we can all be proud of.”
The former head of state has been tipped by Ghana most recent national opinion poll by Global infoAnalytic to win the 2024 presidential polls.
