KUMASI, Dec 11 (Futball Surgery)- Politicians in both out-going and in-coming administrations are being asked to follow political power transfer principles and process to maintain a reputable democratic state.
Ghana’s outgoing president Nana Akufo-Addo has called for collaboration, transparency, and mutual respect in the country embarkment of transition process following the conclusion of the 2024 general elections.
The West African country has held inauguration ceremony for an already-setup transition team, who will supervise the orderly and peaceful transfer of power from the Akufo Addo led New Patriotic Party administration to the in-coming John Dramani Mahama National Democratic Congress administration as part of the state’s bid to birth new government.
Speaking at the inauguration held at the Accra International Conference Centre, President Akufo-Addo of the ruling New Patriotic Party party but will be out of office by January 7 2025, reiterated the importance of adhering to the Transition Act to uphold Ghana’s democratic reputation.
“It is imperative that we continue to consolidate this hard-earned reputation by adhering strictly to the provisions of the Transition Act. We send a powerful message to the world that democracy thrives in Ghana, even in challenging times,” the outgoing President stated.
He urged members of both the outgoing administration and the incoming Mahama government to work together effectively to ensure a seamless handover of power.
“As we embark on this transitional process, I urge all members of the team, both from the outgoing administration and the incoming, to approach this task with a spirit of collaboration, transparency, and mutual respect,” he added.
The transition team is expected to oversee the smooth transfer of government operations, ensuring that critical national projects and policies continue uninterrupted during the change in administration.
Ghana has been hit with the worst economic crisis in a generation, a factor that contributed to Akufo Addo’s abysmal loss in the 2024 presidential polls. The country is gradually recovering from its woes.
Ghana’s economic growth is ranked third in the last three years, according to some minor economic data sources.
