The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a public announcement reminding traders that Burkina Faso’s ban on the export of key grains and cereals remains in place.
In a statement by the Ministry, Ghanaian importers were reminded that Burkina Faso, through a joint communique dated December 19, 2023, had imposed a ban on the export of key agricultural commodities, including rice, millet, maize, sorghum, and white beans (cowpea).
A follow-up communique from Burkina Faso on November 13, 2024, reaffirmed that the export restriction remains in force, cautioning buyers of these products that the ban is still active.
The Ministry advised all Ghanaian traders engaged in the importation of these commodities to comply with the directive to avoid potential sanctions or disruptions to their businesses.
This measure by Burkina Faso is expected to impact food supply chains in the region, particularly for Ghanaian businesses relying on imports from the northern neighbour.
The Ministry has urged all affected stakeholders to be guided by the development.
