Southampton and Sevilla lead race to sign Strasbour defender Alexander Djiku ahead of transfer deadline day

With the European transfer window closing this evening, most Ghanaian stars are looking forward to make interesting moves away from their respective homes with some deals a long standing- Kudus Mohammed and Alexander Djiku who could both move to the English Premier League.

Everton are still likely to sign midfielder Kudus Mohammed from Ajax and a move a way from Stade de la Meinau is also possible for Djiku, according to latest reports.

Strasbourg center-back Alexander Djiku has popped up on the radar of European clubs this summer with Southampton and Sevilla the latest to be preparing a bid for the Ghanaian International.

The English Premier League and Laliga clubs have been presented with less than a day to complete the deal and that would hand Strasbourg a major challenge to find a replacement before the summer transfer window finally shut down today 11pm.

The RMC has reported that Sevilla and Southampton have been admiring the Ghanaian defender in his days at Strasbourg as they look forward to sign the 28-year old in this particular window.

At the beginning of the summer, Djiku nearly joined German Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim but negotiations broke down along the line, claimed by Ghana Soccer Net. Hoffenheim’s interest came following Djiku’s impressive displays both at national and club levels.

Djiku was among Ghana’s best performers in the 2021 AFCON despite the Black Stars’ underwhelm results in Cameroon in January. Alexander Djiku has scored one goal after making five appearances for Strasbourg in the ongoing campaign as they sit in relegation zone.

Southampton and Sevilla have reportedly made enquirers with Strasbourg on signing the Ghana international in the deadline day who appears a standout performer at the French Ligue 1 side. Southampton sit 8th on the Premier League table, a place regarded as good position off relegation arguments.

But they appear to be still looking forward for potential candidates who can help them in a more finer position after the season. Though Djiku may not be household name in the books of English football but experiences of Mohammed Salisu could be acted upon to justify Boro’s move for Djiku.

Salisu has been a integral member of Southampton’s defence since joining from Real Valladolid in 2020 and the Premier League side may already know the qualities Djiku will bring on board.

For Sevilla, the Spanish season hasn’t been well with them sitting 15th position after three games though it’s an early season. The may need the Ghanaian International the most to revitaliesd their campaign. They have conceded 5 goals so far to become among the top conceding sides in the Laliga with Cadiz (7 goals conceded and  Espanyol 7 goal conceded} appearing the most conceded teams so far.

The two clubs may see a bid accepted with Strasbourg ready to allow the Ghana defender leave in the last day. Despite that it may come with any of the clubs submitting the right offer. The Ghana international has a year remaining on his current contract at Strasbourg.

Djiku, who has been a key figure for the Black Stars is expected to make the squad for the 2022 World Cup scheduled to be hosted in Qatar later this.
