Bumper deal signed back then in China as new revelation suggests Asamoah Gyan earned £3million per goal in his 2-year contract at Shanghai SIPG

Ghanaian International Asamoah Gyan signed a bumper deal signed back then at Shanghai SIPG as reports claim the African World Cup top scorer earned £3million per goal in his 2-year stay in China.

Ex-Sunderland star Asamoah Gyan earned nearly £3million per goal during his two years playing in China for Shanghai SIPG.

The Ghanaian striker moved to the Chinese Super League for £8million in 2015 after three years playing in the United Arab Emirates with Al-Ain having left England in 2012.

However, he spent just two years in China, with the second of these spent back in the UAE with a loan spell at Al-Ahli for the 2016/17 season.

Overall, Gyan reportedly earned a reported £23.6million during his time with Shanghai SIPG, scoring a total of eight goals in 26 matches across all competitions with the club.

This works out to £2.95million per goal scored for the club, with seven of his goals coming in his 20 appearances in the Chinese Super League.

Gyan was one of many stars to flock to the league as clubs started to splash the cash with high transfer fees and wages to attract big names to China.

Other players to move to China during this period include former Premier League players Oscar and Paulinho as well as their compatriot Hulk.

Following his loan spell back in the UAE, Gyan left the club on a free transfer in the summer of 2017 to join Turkish club Kayserispor.

Gyan is most familiar with fans in England following a stint with Sunderland that began in 2010 when he arrived at the Stadium of Light from Rennes for £14.4million.

He had previously starred for Ghana during their run to the quarter-finals at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Gyan scored 11 goals in 37 appearances for the Black Cats and was their joint top scorer during the 2010/11 season alongside Darren Bent.

However, he spent the following campaign on loan at Al-Ain before joining the Abu Dhabi-based club permanently in the summer of 2012 for £6.75million.

He went on to finish as top scorer in three of the four seasons he spent in the UAE Pro-League, including the season he was on loan with the club.

He also finished as the top scorer in the Asian Champions League in 2014 as Al-Ain reached the semi-finals.

Gyan is currently a free agent having left his last club, Legon Cities in his native Ghana, at the end of October.
