Leicester City agree £8m deal with Crystal Palace to sign forward Jordan Ayew

Sports/ Football (Kumasi, Ghana) Aug 22 (Futball Surgery Sports)- Leicester City have agreed a £8m deal with Crystal Palace to sign Ghanaian forward Jordan Ayew from Crystal Palace.

Leicester City will pay an initial fee of £5million plus £3m in add-ons to secure their seventh signing of this summer.

Leicester have signed Oliver Skipp, Abdul Fatawu, Caleb Okoli and Bobby De Cordova Reid while Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Marc Albrighton, Dennis Praet and Kelechi Iheanacho were among those to depart.

The improved bid has been accepted by Palace, paving the way for Ayew’s departure after a spell at the club since 2018.

The Ghanaian international, who turns 33 next month, has made over 200 appearances for Palace and scored 23 goals across 211 appearances for his Palace career.

However, his role has been reduced under new manager Oliver Glasner, with Ayew being a second-half substitute in Palace’s recent Premier League defeat to Brentford.

Leicester manager Steve Cooper, who has previously worked with Ayew’s older brother Andre at Nottingham Forest and Swansea City, is focused on enhancing his attacking options.

Cooper has emphasised the need to strengthen the squad, particularly in the forward positions.

“We know where we want to strengthen, we know where we want to improve. If we can improve a starter in the team, we’ll do that, and we know we need to strengthen the competition in some places as well,” Cooper said earlier this month.

Ayew’s Premier League experience could be a valuable addition to Leicester’s attacking lineup, complementing the formidable Jamie Vardy.

Palace lost their Premier League opening game at Brentford despite dominating the match.

Leicester meanwhile fought to a 1-1 draw at home against Tottenham to secure a vital point.

Leicester City travel to Fulham on Saturday for their second league game. Ayew is expected to be part of that game for the reigning Championship champions.
