KUMASI, Dec 31 (Futball Surgery)- Israel, through its ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon, has warned Houthis that they face ‘miserable fate’ like Israel enemies Hamas, Hezbollah and Assad if the Yemen rebel group continues to attack Israel.
Israel has struck and silenced Gaza’s Hamas, Iran-backed Hezbollah and Syria’s Assad militant groups in their face-offs over territorial, religious and political conflict of interests in Middle East.
Israel turned their attention to Houthis- who first launched attacks on Israel and Israeli shipping, according to the Guardian, where the Iranian-back group said they were acting in solidarity with Palestine during the start of Israel-Hamas war in October 2023.
Since then, both parties have been attacking each other but Houthis continue to be the first actor with Israel always appearing in retaliatory opposition.
After Israeli warplanes air-attacks across Yemen’s capital Sana’a on Thursday including on Sana’s international airport, in retaliatory strike to Houthis’ Wednesday attacks, Houthi who vowed in a statement on Friday that Israel’s strikes “will only increase the determination and resolve of the great Yemeni people to continue supporting the Palestinian people”, has increased its operations on Israel.
And that was immediately followed with the group’s Friday strikes on Israel’s Ben Gurion airport and a power station south of Jerusalem using a hypersonic ballistic missile and a Zulfiqar ballistic missile respectively, the group’s military spokesperson Yahya Saree said.
Those attacks were partly confirmed by Israel Defense Forces (IDF) who said their defense systems intercepted the ballistic missile before it hit Israeli airspace (Ben Gurion airport), though residents in the centre of the country were ordered into shelters for fear of falling debris. But Israel did not confirm any reported drone attack on Tel Aviv.
There are reports that residence in Tel Aviv and other parts of Israel are not sleeping as they would be wake up in nights by blowing sirens signaling danger from concurrent airstrikes on Israel. Israeli military has confirmed those air attacks saying, just hours after Danon’s warning to Houthis, it had intercepted a missile fired from Yemen, as air raid alarms were sounded.
Those Houthis attacks on Israel in recent times have prompted the country’s ambassador to the UN Danny Danon, in a meeting with the global peacekeeping organization on Monday, to warn the Iran-backed militia in Yemen.
Danon, who was captured in the meeting holding a picture of map showing the range of Houthis’ missile attack on Israel, told the United Nations, “To the Houthis, perhaps you have not been paying attention to what has happened to the Middle East over the past year.
“Well, allow me to remind you what has happened to Hamas, to Hezbollah, to Assad, to all those who have attempted to destroy us. Let this be your final warning. This is not a threat. It is a promise. You will share the same miserable fate,” Danon said.
Mr. Danon had before meeting the UN told reports that Israel will defend its people from terrorists.
“Israel will defend its people. If 2,000 kilometres is not enough to separate our children from the terror, let me assure you, it will not be enough to protect their terror from our strengths.”
It’s unclear the next line of military action between Israel and Houthi, and as to whether the Houthis will listen to the Israeli warning and desist from sending rocket attacks or will continue to pursue Israel and its people and suffer a daunting future where Israeli military is prepared to shrink the militant in Yemen.
