Man, suspected murderer of Ghanaian woman Alberta Obinim detained under UK Mental Health Act

News/ Ghana (Kumasi, Ghana) Aug 23 (Futball Surgery News)- A man arrested on suspicion of the stabbing murder of a 43-year-old woman in Manchester has been detained under the UK Mental Health Act.

Alberta Obinim’s identity was not confirmed after her death but Futball Surgery by popular means identified the deceased to be a Ghanaian.

Alberta’s death came after she was stabbed at a house on Barnard Road in the Gorton area of the city at about 23:20 BST (11:20pm Ghana time) on Sunday.

Two others – a 64-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl – were also left with life-threatening injuries.

The 22-year-old suspect has now been placed under the detention of mental health professionals, Greater Manchester Police said.

The UK force said all of those involved “were known to one another”.

The injured man remains in a critical condition while the 17-year-old girl is now stable, it added.

Extra patrols remain in the area and an appeal is continuing, with anyone with information urged to contact police.

Detective Chief Inspector Charlotte Whalley, of our Major Incident Team of the Manchester Police said: “Our thoughts remain with those affected by this tragic incident.

“We have stepped up our patrols of the local area, to provide reassurance to people that our investigation is continuing at a pace, and that we are there to listen to concerns and answer questions.
“We continue to appeal for any information; we advise anyone who witnessed this incident to please come forward, if they haven’t already done so.

“We are also interested in speaking to anyone who was in the surrounding area near to Barnard Road at around 11pm that night. If you have any dash cam, doorbell, or mobile phone footage, this could help us in piecing together what happened.
