Former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh dies aged 92

KUMASI, Dec 26 (Futball Surgery)- Indian former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has died at the age of 92. Singh was a famous Indian politician due to his milestone striking nuclear deal with the U.S and also the chief introducer of India’s economic reform program that surged the country into global economic force.

Singh’s progressively worsened health status from what the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, the hospital where he died said “sudden loss of consciousness at home” led to the former PM’s admission to the New Delhi’s hospital late Thursday. The hospital in a statement also said Singh was “being treated for age-related medical conditions”.

On record, Singh is one of the longest-serving Indian prime ministers, occupying the position for 10 years after being chosen to fill the role in 2004 by Sonia Gandhi, the widow of the assassinated prime minister Rajiv Gandhi.

Singh earned a reputation as a man of great personal integrity, but his sterling image was tainted by allegations of corruption.

Singh was elected to a second term as prime minister from 2009-2014 that was clouded by financial scandals and corruption charges over the organisation of the 2010 Commonwealth Games. This led to the Congress party’s crushing defeat in the 2014 national election by the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata party under the leadership of Narendra Modi.

The 92-old in India’s enroute to economic powerhouse in Asia and the world introduced free-market policy that brought many economic forces to trade with India, and were able to compete with China. Singh also brought India’s reconciliation with Pakistan, according to The New York Times.

Current Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took to X to announced Singh’s death, in which Modi has described Mr. Singh one of India’s “most distinguished leaders.”
