A Cape Coast Circuit Court has ordered fresh polling station executive elections to be held in the Twifo-Hemang Lower Denkyira Constituency of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Central Region.

It has thus annulled the first election held in about thirty polling stations out of the 83 polling stations in the constituency.

The ongoing NPP polling station elections in some constituencies of the Central Region and other parts of the country have been marred by disagreements over claims of unfairness in the process.

Nana Kwaku Abban, the Deputy Constituency Secretary for the NPP at Hemang Lower Denkyira said due process must be followed.

“The earlier election has been annulled, and an appropriate timetable must be prepared for all the 83 polling stations and must be agreed as a guide for the re-run.”

NPP members in the constituency had protested what they described as fraudulent polling station elections.

They contended that the acclamations for the election were done without their knowledge, although they had picked forms for the election.

The aggrieved supporters stormed the party’s regional office to demand an end to the illegality.

They later petitioned the court to place an injunction on the election.
