AFCON Qualifiers 2023: Star-studded Nigeria Super Eagles fall at home

The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers witnessed a shock on Friday when Nigeria hosted Guinea Bissau.

The Super Eagles today hosted their counterpart from Guinea Bissau in a Group A clash of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers.

In a game played at the Abuja National Stadium, a star-studded Nigeria starting eleven was expected to secure a win at the end of the 90 minutes.

However, a solitary strike from Mama Balde in the 29th minute handed Guinea Bissau a crucial 1-0 win to amass the maximum three points.

The win means Guinea Bissau are now top of the Group A standings of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers with seven points while Nigeria drops to second with six points.

Sierra Leone as well as Sao Tome and Principe follow in third and fourth on the group standings respectively.

Nigeria after the defeat today, will prepare to make the trip to Guinea Bissau for the reverse fixture in the AFCON qualifiers.
