TP Mazembe set to beat Asante Kotoko to former Black Stars manager C.K Akonnor

Congolese powerhouse TP Mazembe have reportedly reached an agreement with former Ghana coach, CK Akonnor to take over the club as a new head coach.

Akonnor has been unattached after he was sacked at the Black Stars of Ghana in September 2021 after losing to South Africa in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

The former Black Stars boss has been linked with Ghana Premier League side Asante Kotoko in earlier reports following their sack of Burkina Faso clach Seydou Zerbo.

Kotoko were understood to opened talks with C.K Akonnor but the former Black Stars manager could end up at TP Mazembe.

According to local media reports, Akonnor will sign a two-year deal with  TP Mazembe with an option for another year.

The Congolese side have struggled in the CAF Confederation Cup and would not qualify to the knockout stages of the competition after sitting last place of Group D comprising of Young Africans, Monastir and Real Bamako.

TP Mazembe will host Young Africans on Sunday afternoon for last round of group games. A win will only place TP Mazembe third on the standings with Young Africans and Monastir already qualifying out of Group D.
