Al Hilal 2-0 Coton Sport: David Abagna and Makabi Lilepo take Sudanese side top of Group B

Ghanaian International David Abagna and Makabi Lilepo strikes take Al Hilal Omdurman top of Group B off Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions League.

Al Hilal had been led on the table by Mamelodi Sundowns since the start of the African Champions League group stages. But they have always fought well to man the second position having led record holders Al Ahly 5points until the Egyptians win over Coton Sport last Friday reducing points gap between Hilal and Ahly to 2.

With a matter of fighting for qualification, a Al Hilal win against Coton Sport was the best results for the Sudanese giants before prior leaders Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly meet Saturday in South Africa, a win for any of the two will at least put Al Hilal on the safer side of permutations.

For Coton Sport, they have always been the whipping boys failing to pick a win in their previous three games ahead of their trip to the Al Hilal Stadium Tuesday. Al Hilal came from behind to beat them 2-1 in the first leg in Cameroon and Al Ahly beat them 2-0 in what was the Egyptian Premier League leaders’ first win in the group stages.

Al Hilal took the lead in the first half through David Abagna before Congolese attacker Makabi Lilepo scored the second goal in the second half through the spot. The goal in each half is enough to take Al Hilal to the top of Group B 2 points above Mamelodi Sundowns with two games remaining.

It completes Al Hilal’s back-to-back win over Coton Sport.

Group B points build-up

  • Al Hilal- 9pts
