Chelsea could announce Timo Werner transfer before buy-out clause deadline

Chelsea fans are excited about the way and manner their club are going about this summer’s transfer market so far after securing £37million Hakim Ziyech from Ajax and on the verge of signing Leipzig forward Timo Werner.

It has been revealed by Athletic outlet that Werner’s £53million buy-out clause was met last Thursday and the forward has accepted personal terms with Frank Lamapard’s side.

It is understood that 24-year old will pen a five-year contract worth £200,000-a-week to complete his move from the Bundesliga to the EPL for next season’s campaign.

However, until the deal is formally announced there will be worries of issues arriving along the way- including last minute bid to hijack the Werner’s transfer.

Meanwhile, his release clause expires Monday, June 15 which means the Blues could announce the transfer before that date.

And former Manchester United and Liverpool striker Michael Owen has talked about Werner’s chances of shining in the EPL.

“The Bundesliga is a very strong league and you would say that he can translate that,” Owen said on Premier League Productions.

“He does it at international level as well. I’ve been watching him quite closely since the restart and he’s already started scoring goals, he’s very quick, can cut in from wide, times his runs brilliantly and he’s very direct as well, straight at the goal, a bit like Torres.

“I don’t think he plays exactly the same but I always used to feel that Torres would take that first touch and then be motoring forward. I like him a lot.

“I’m sure Liverpool wanted him but maybe the financial implications and where we’re standing in the world at the moment put them off… but I’m pretty sure they wanted him.”

The RB Leipzig forward has already netted 25 goals and 8 assists in 29 Bundesliga starts this season.
