Chelsea new signing Thiago Silva first group training at Cobham spotted along with Ben Chilwell

One of Frank Lampard’s summer signings Thiago Silva has started his Chelsea training at Cobham today.

The Brazilian has been out of football since PSG’s Champions League final defeat to Bayern Munich last month.

The centre-back was spotted in training with another summer signing Ben Chilwell as Chelsea prepare in group training to meet Premier League champions Liverpool on Sunday.

While Silva’s move cost Chelsea no transfer fee to the French Ligue 1 outfit, Chilwell transfer to Stamford Bridge cost £50million.

Chilwell has been working on his rehabilitation from an Achilles injury since completing his transfer from Leicester City three weeks ago. The left-back has not featured since sustaining the injury at the start of July in a Premier League game against Crystal Palace.

Thiago Silva, meanwhile, only arrived in London last week following his switch from Paris. The 35-year old began with small running on the pitch before he started kicking the ball alone.

He was later joined by the new Chelsea left-back for both players attacking each other with the ball where one was supposed to defend the attack.

In Silva’s move to Stamford Bridge,Chelsea were spotted using the free-transfer-system as a rational transfer tool to strengthen but reduced the cost of improving their weak centre-back half.

The West London side deployed same tool to land Malang Sarr after expiration of his contract at Nice without any further agreed contract with the Ligue 1 outfits.

Thiago Silva emerges the latest player to follow suit Chelsea’s free-transfer-approach in strengthen their central defense in this summer’s transfer window.

Silva was Chelsea’s sixth signing of this window and cold still add a few in shape of a goalkeeper as Arrizabalaga’s future at Stamford Bridge looks doubtful.
