Timo Werner hits Premier League brace as Chelsea held to 3-3 draw by Southampton

Timo Werner was the men in centre of action as Chelsea welcomed Southampton to West London. Werner hits a brace before setting up Chelsea’s winner against Southampton.

However, Chelsea failed to continue from where they left before the International break after being held to a 3-3 draw at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon.

Timo Werner finally breaks his goal-drought in the Premier League,  striking twice for Frank Lampard’s side before the 30’ minute mark.

The Germany International had only netted in EFL Cup game against Tottenham before the national duties broke domestic competitions across Europe.

There was much expectation on Werner’s Premier League campaign when Chelsea walked into clash with the Saints but the former RB Leipzig forward scores double in English top flight league.

A dominant performance saw Werner put Chelsea ahead 15 minutes inside proceedings before lashing on Jorginho’s one-time lofted pass 12’ minutes later.

Southampton pulled one back before the break when Kepa was beaten inside the 6-yard box before Danny Ings finished in an empty net three minutes to end the first half.

Che Adams leveled 12 minutes into second half for Southampton but Kai Havertz restored Chelsea’s lead two minutes later.

This time Timo Werner turned provider of Chelsea’s third goal, sending the ball across goal area for Kia Havertz to tap in. Jannik Vestergaard’s stoppage time goal ended the game 3-3 as Chelsea now lie 6th on the league log.
