Chelsea concede defeat in Upamecano and Alaba transfers as Thomas Tuchel opens talks to bring in Niklas Sule

Chelsea have conceded defeat in transfer of Dayot Upamecano and David Alaba with Thomas Tuchel opening talks with the Premier League side to bring in Bayern Munich star Niklas Sule.

The Blues were heavily linked with a move for both Upamecano and Alaba amid Chelsea’s defensive problems over the last two seasons.

Chelsea have been suffering from defensive lapses since the era of Frank Lampard and despite the Blue legend bringing in Thiago Silva to bridge the degree of lapses, the problem have not been completely dealt with.

Thomas Tuchel took over from Lampard in January 2021 and the German International has made strengthening his backline a major priority ahead of summer.

Tuchel’s priority in the transfer market can be measured from the type of players linked with Chelsea under Lampard and Tuchel himself.

Under Lampard, despite landing Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Kai Havertz in big-money transfers, the West London side were still interested in further attacking stars Jadon Sancho, Ousmane Dembélé, Erling Haaland and Isco.

Chelsea’s shopping list under Thomas Tuchel seems to be altered with Red Bull Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano and David Alaba being the most talked about targets of the former Paris Saint-Germain boss though the 47-year old has stated his desire the have Haaland at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have now been beaten in a race for Upamecano and Alaba after Bayern Munich announcing the former’s agreement a couple of day ago.

“Dayot Upamecano (22, RB Leipzig) will move to FC Bayern München from 1 July 2021. The defender and the German record champions have agreed the terms of a five-year deal until 30 June 2026”, Bayern said in a press announcement on their official site.

Board member for sport Hasan Salihamidžić added “We’re happy that we’ve been able to sign Dayot Upamecano for FC Bayern München. We’re convinced that Dayot will be a very important member of our team in the coming years.”

With that said, Alaba is understood to be in the train to Santiago Bernabeu at the end of this season. In line with that, Real Madrid have already agreed a deal with the Austrian International.

With Bayern and Madrid snatching Upamecano and Alaba respectively, Chelsea are still pursuing strengthening their defense agenda.

Chelsea have total concede defeat in Alaba and Upamecano moves as claimed by football.london and Thomas Tuchel has proposed Niklas Sule in return.

According to the report in the English news outlet, Tuchels has already began talks with Chelsea transfer guru Marina Gravnoskia over Sule’s deal.

Chelsea are confident of securing a deal for the German International after Bayern Munich willing to sell Sule after the arrival of Upamecano though the French International is not regarded  as direct replacement for Alaba.

Sule joined Bayern Munich in 2017 and have a season left on his contract at Allianz Arena. He has played 18 matches plus two goals across all competitions this season but he could earn up in Stamford Bridge for the 2021-2022 season.
