Manchester United plotting £20million swoop for Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes
Manchester United are reportedly planning a £20m swoop for Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes ahead of summer move to Old Trafford.
Manchester United are in need of the permanent center-back to pair Harry Maguire in the heart of defense next season, according to Sky Sports.
Their problem in centre-back of the defense set up is one of the main collapses Ole’s side struggled to deal with amid their struggle-to-qualify for Champions League despite finishing third in the current Premier League standings.
Throughout the season, United made several attempts to solve their defence problem after pairing Eric Bailly, Victor Lindelof, Phil Jones and Diogo Dalot with Maguire in the course of the Premier League season and not that alone, together with a bid to sign Napoli ace Kalidou Koulibaly but all attempts failed.
Their ambition to fight for the Premier League title next season mean the former champions are been forced to bring in a new centre-back to strengthen their weak defense, and have identified Chelsea target Gabriel Magalhaes.
According to Sky Sports, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjær looks desperate to sign Magalhaes this summer having been impressive of player’s style of play- while the Brazilian, 22, knee on leaving Lille when the summer transfer window opens.
However, it appears that Magalhaes’ price tag could be some sort of a stumbling block for Manchester United.
The 22-year old has been exceptional in Christophe Galtier set up this season and is priced €35million due to interests from Everton, Napoli, Sevilla and Chelsea but consider £20milion to be accurate assessment for Magalhaes.
Speculation of Magalhaes’ departure from the Ligue 1 outfits has been confirmed by Lille ahead of the summer transfer window.
“With Gabriel, we are talking and we’ve given him an exit pass. He will choose his club this week,” Lille told L’Equipe.
