Asante Kotoko News: Champions make contact with former rival manager Samuel Boadu after sacking Seydou Zerbo

Asante Kotoko has contacted Samuel Boadu after head coach Seydou Zerbo was fired today due to poor results according to reports in the local media.

The former rival manager could now become the next new head coach of the Ghana Premier League champions after parting ways with Burkina Faso manager Seydou Zerbo on Monday.

Zerbo was sacked after Asante Kotoko’s 2-0 defeat to Medeama SC at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday evening. With high confidence ahead of the game, all Kotoko hopes were immediately shut down after Jonathan Sowah gave the visitors an early lead before former Hearts of Oak center-back Vincent Atinga grabbed the second goal from the spot.

With one game in hand, the Porcupine Warriors are 7th on Ghana Premier League table with 34 points 6 points below leaders Aduana Stars, a situation they find themselves to have slimmed their chances for Africa’s Champions League next term.

Since Zerbo’s departure on Monday morning, several names have been linked with the Ghana Premier League side. Samuel Boadu who enjoyed a successful spell at Hearts of Oak giving the Phobians a Ghana Premier League title, 2 FA Cup trophies and the Presidential Cup is said to have been contacted by the Reds.

Boadu was fired as Hearts’ head coach in September of last year. The 37-year-old spent more than two years with Hearts after taking over from Medeama SC in March 2021.

In the 2021-22 season, Boadu led the Phobians to their first Ghana Premier League title in 10 years. During the same season, he also won the FA Cup.

Boadu lost out on defending the league championship the next season to Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum at Asante Kotoko, although Boadu did win the FA Cup.

There could be exchange of managers after Hearts of oak who sacked their Serbian coach Slavko Matic early this month considering appointing former Asante Kotoko boss Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum.

The Porcupine Warriors view coach Samuel Boadu as the perfect coach who can manage the club to finish the season strongly, according to football Ghana.

Boadu had the better of results during his days at Hearts against Kotoko. the former Hearts of Oak boss is currently the head coach of the Black Satellite (Ghana’s U20 Men’s team) taking over from Abdul Karim Zito.
