Ghana Premier League goal-king Abednego Tetteh linked with Asante Kotoko

Ghana Premier League top scorer Abednego Tetteh has been linked with a move to Asante Kotoko at the end of the season. Tetteh, 32, ready to play for the champions.

Bibiani Gold Stars forward Abednego Tetteh has been sensational in the current season bagging in 16 Ghana Premier League goals earning him Black Stars call-up talks and a move to one of the country’s top sides Asante Kotoko.

Kotoko have struggled in the course of the season exiting early in the CAF Champions League, FA Cup and sit fourth position on the Ghana League table, same points with Tetteh’s Gold Stars who are 5th on the chat.

Despite the defense being Kotoko main problem of the season, their midfield and striking departments aren’t necessarily a exception. Meaning, the defending champions in as much as they will be focusing on strengthening the defense and midfield, they are prepared to add household names in attack despite Steven Mukwala’s flourish in the term.

The Ugandan International, Mukwala, who struggled at the beginning of the season, immediately lifted his game, grabbing 11 goals/5 assists in the Ghanaian top flight to become Kotoko’s top scorer but may need a perfect pair not only for his success but for Kotoko as a whole.

Asante Kotoko have been hit with off the pitch issues having uncertain future of board of directors burst up for talks in the football fraternity.

Despite this condition that has affected the club in many areas including their transfer activities now that the term is ending that require evaluation of the past season, planning and decision makings into next term, Kotoko have managed to work behind the scene to identify a number of potential reinforcements.

Bibiani Gold Stars’ Abednego Tetteh is reportedly one of them and have been gathering scouting reports since the second round of the Ghana Premier League. If the Board and Management members remain at the end of the season, Tetteh would be offered a contract to play at Asante Kotoko.

Tetteh joined Gold Stars in the second round of the season and has managed double figures in terms of goals- a high measurement of a potent striker.

Tetteh’s link with Asante Kotoko is already justified that will help the Reds ease the burden of deploying Eric Serge Zeze and Solomon Sarfo Taylor as Mukwala’s co partner.

Serge Zeze has been flourishing at play-making role but not as ‘one of the two strikers up front’. Sarfo Taylor is also known as a striker but the former Karela United forward has struggled in Kumasi since his move in March 2021. The attacker has improved in recent games scoring a superb goal against Gold Stars and producing two assists in Kotoko’s 3-1 victory over Kotoku Royals.

Tetteh’s addition will give Mukwala a major room to score more goals.

Tetteh joining the Reds next term with his goal-king status puts the clubs in a position to compete for the GPL title in 2023-2024 campaign. Tetteh’s goal-king ambition is threatened by Bechem United’s forward Hafiz Konkoni who Kotoko consider as alternative to Abednego Tetteh.

Hafiz Konkoni has netted 15 times, one shy of Abednego Tetteh. The Gold Stars’ forward has talked about his dream to win the GPL top scorer award at the end of the season.

“For the golden boot, I hope I win it,” he told Tv3. ” I will work very hard to maintain the top slot and then try as much as possible to win the golden boot and also help my team to finish in the top four in the ongoing Premier League,” he added.

“My target is Bibiani being in the top four teams. After the season, when the top four teams are being mentioned I want Bibiani to be in there. And my second target is winning the golden boot award.”

The striker has already given Asante Kotoko his word of joining them.

“I am ready to play for Kotoko if they come with a good offer,” he told Original FM in an interview. The 32-year-old has netted 16 goals in 28 matches this season and credits coach Michael Osei for his form.

“I will thank my coach Michael Osei for my success at Bibiani Gold Stars,” he added.

“He has been the master plan of Bibiani Gold Stars great performance this season.”

Tetteh has played for top African clubs Al Hilal Omdurman, Al Hilal Obeid and Hearts of Oak. He played a key role in Bechem United’s FA Cup win in 2016.
