Maxwell Konadu admits difficult first half against Legon Cities but reveals second half tactics made the difference for Kotoko 3-1 victory

Maxwell Konadu guided Kotoko to their second victory in the Ghana Premier League, following Porcupine’s 3-1 win over Legon Cities on Friday evening.

The Porcupine were leapfrogged early minutes into the game before a hard fought saw Augustine Okrah leveled Kotoko 12’ minute to the end of the first half.

The first half was a tight game for both sides but it seems the Kumasi boss was less better of their opponents in first 45 minutes, admitting Cities’ three-man midfield that contained two defensive men was bit of difficulty for his men.

He insisted he needed the second half to make tactical changes for Kotoko to play their free flowing football the Accra Stadium today.

“Honestly the game was a difficult one from the onset, it wasn’t easy from the beginning but once we came from the second half with a game plan, we knew definitely the waters were coming to calm down for us to have our game on”, Maxwell Konadu told reporters in his post-match press conference.

“We were able to soak the pressure from Legon Cities, they had the first goal but we came back strongly to win the game.”

“I think my overall impression is, it’s was a good game, we played much better in the second half”

Despite today’s win, the Kotoko boss still doesn’t see his side winning the Ghana Premier League so easily as people have assumed.

When asked whether his side is winning the 2019-2020 Ghana Premier League Konadu said, “It’s early days yet, we don’t have to create the impression that two wins out of two game is good enough reason for us to clinch the title.”

“Initially they started 4-3-3 system with two holding midfielders and that gave us problems, but we returned the second half with an antidote to make sure that we went past them and that gave us the edge over Cities.

Today’s win set Maxwell Konadu on the road to achieving his longest unbeaten run record during first stint at Kumasi where he went 16 games in a row without a defeat in the 2011-2012 Premier League season.
