Asante Kotoko dealt with transfer blow as Gladson Awako unready to leave Great Olympics until end of season

Asante Kotoko dealt with a transfer blow after midfielder Gladson Awako unready to leave Great Olympics this transfer window.

The second transfer window has opened last month with clubs already completed their top targets.  Like bitterest rivals Hearts of Oak who have added Ibrahim Salisu to the ranks, Kotoko have not yet announced any deal.

Meanwhile, they continue to be linked with a move for several top players and among them is Gladson Awako who has been influential in Olympics’ Ghana Premier League campaign.

The Accra based side have managed 8 wins- together with league leaders Karela United for most victories in Ghana’s top flight football.

Awako is currently not the leading scorer at Olympics but he has been one of the men to fire the Accra based side to second place in the Ghana Premier League.

He was named NASCO Ghana Premier League Player of the Month for December and involved in 10 goals in the Ghana Premier League.

Kotoko have shown interest in Awako but have not made any official contacts. Prior to two weeks to the opening of the transfer window, Awako send Kotoko a huge transfer boost after stating he will welcome a move to the Porcupine Warriors when the window opens.

A deal for Awako could be hampered by Olympics’ unwillingness to sell the play-maker and latest reports in Ghana means the deal would be more difficult for this window.

According sources in Modern Ghana, Olympics have spoken to Awako and the player has accepted to stay at the capital to help them secure continental football.

“He is not leaving the club in the middle of the season and that I can assure you,” the source said.

“Awako will stay with Olympics till the end of the campaign and that I can assure you.

“He has assured the club and I believe he will only consider his options at the end of the season when he has helped the club achieve its target of finishing in the top four.”

Awako will travel with Olympics to the Theatre of Dreams on Sunday to lock horns with third-placed Dreams FC in one of the week’s top fixtures.

Awako has been named in the Black Stars squad for the upcoming 2021 Africa Cup of Nations doubleheader qualifiers against South Africa and Sao Tome.
