Al Ahly record first CAF Champions League win after stunning Coton Sport

Al Ahly have recorded their first win in the 2023 CAF Champions League after beating Coton Sport 3-0 at Al-Salam Stadium. 

The Cairo based side have struggled in the competition since their arrival from the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup losing to Sudanese side Al Hilal in the opening game and drawing at home against favourites Mamelodi Sundowns in their second.

They have defeated Cameroonian giants Coton Sport to boost their chances for knockout stage football. Prior to this game, Ahly were third trailing qualification zone 5 points with Al Hilal who occupied last position of the zone.

Sundowns top with 7 points and Al Hilal second with 6 points. Al Ahly’s win still puts them at third place but with increased points buildup now just a point below Al Hilal.

In what was more of an outstanding game with rest of the games (fourth games) coming off Tuesday, Mohamed Sherif broke the deadlock before former ES Seftif attacker Armed Kendouci doubling the lead in the first half.

Abdelkader Bayoumi sealed the 3-0 victory in stoppage time. Al Hilal have their destiny in their as a win against Coton Sport on Tuesday will boost the Sudanese chances for the knockout stage.

Al Ahly who see their chances led by Sundowns and Al Hilal meanwhile will travel to Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday.
