Medeama SC 3-0 Hearts of Oak, as it happened, Ghana Premier League 2019-2020

Medeama SC welcomed Heats of Oak to the Akoon Community Park in Tarkwa for week two of the 2019-2020 Ghana Premier League.

Medeama coach James Boadu maintained his side that beat Dwarfs last weekend, which means Erick Ofori Antwi kept his place in posts whiles Prince Opoku Agyemang and Ebenezer Ackhanbi led the lines.

Edward Nii Odoom who replaced Kim Grant dduring the week named a strong XI against Medeama, hoping to collect first three points in his debut match as Hearts boss. Odoom opted for the 3-5-2 system, leaving Richmond Ayi in posts, and Mohammed Alhassan, Benjamin Agyare and Robert Addo completed the back three.

Fatawu Mohammed in right wing-back, Benjamin Afutu, Omar Manaf, Michelle Sarpong and William Denkyi in left wing-back completed the five-man midfield leaving Joseph Esso and Kofi Kodzi as the two forwards.

Medeama launched early attack and earned a penalty, Prince Opoku Agyemang converted the spot kick to put Medeama ahead on the 3rd minute.

The home side stood tall and never comprised anything on the afternoon, maintaining the pressure on the visitors but Richmond Ayi produced individual saves to prevent Medeama from doubling the lead inside the first 10’ minutes.

On the 31st minute, Prince Opoku Agyemang doubled Medeama’s lead and his second on the afternoon. The two quick goals inside first thirty minutes showed the desire and resilient of Boadu’s men to deepen Hearts’ wounds as Medeama ended the first half as the dominant side.

Nii Odoom incurred a change early in the second half, with Michelle Sarpong who less benefited from the 3-5-2 system making way for Dominic Eshun. The 3-5-2 system was not working for Hearts as most crosses from right wing-back Fatawu Mohammed found no one in Medeama box.

Medeama incurred their first change as Michael Yeboah who had created problems at the right flank was replaced by Kwasi Donsu. Few minutes after his introduction, Donsu struck a powerful free kick from outside the box but Richmond Ayi saved that effort.

The resultant action saw hearts broke on attack, Kofi Kodzi found Joseph Esso on the left side, the latter sent in a beautiful short at goal but the effort missed the target by inch.

Nana Kofi Babel replaced Ebenezer Ackhanbi later, which Kofi Babel registered the third goal for Medeama, tapping in Adjei Boakye’ cross from the right flank.

Six minutes to full time, Hearts warmed into the game but all the clear-cut chances continued to fall the way of the home side. Kofi Babel three minutes to time run through Hearts defense before shooting at goal but was saved by Richmond Ayi.

Bernard Arthur should have pull one back for Hearts but the forward struck wide after he was even adjudged offside.

Today’s win hands Medeama their second win in two league games whiles Hearts of Oak return to the capital with zero point with zero goal from two league games.
