Manchester City hold firm advantage in Caraboa final after seeing of rivals United 3-1 in semi-final first leg

Manchester City handed Carabao Cup final advantage after thrashing Manchester United at Old Trafford in first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-finals.

Manchester United lost to Arsenal 2-0 on the New Year’s Day, and drew away against Wolves in the FA Cup Fourth Round last Saturday before welcoming their city rivals Manchester City to Old Trafford for today’s evening Carabao encounter.

Manchester City, who walked into today’s game with a revenge mind set after United defeated them at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League appeared Old Trafford with a fine form inside the New Year, recording a slim 2-1 home victory over Everton before seeing off Port Vale in the FA Cup three days ago.

They now have the advantage to make their fifth League finals in six year and their third consecutive finals of the Carabao Cup after today’s 3-1 win over United.

Thanks to Bernardo Silva, Riyad Mahrez and Andreas Pereira’s own goal that saw Pep’s side end the first half with a deserving 3-0 lead.

Marcus Rashford pulled one back for Manchester United to end the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-finals 3-1.

Manchester City announced their presence at Old Trafford 17’ minute into the game when Bernard Silva at the right edge outside the box smashed a beautiful curler into the top left corner.

On the 33rd minute, Bernardo Silva sent Mahrez one-on-one with David de Gea before the Algerian dribbled the Spaniard keeper to register City’s second goal.

Seven minutes to end the first half, Andreas Pereira scored an own goal to complete City’s third goal. De Gea saved Kevin De Bruyne shot from tight angle inside the box before the ball hit the leg of Pereira into the empty net.

Marcus Rashford on the 70th minute sent a low shot from inside the box to cancel one out for United but his goal was not enough as City run away in the first leg of Carabao semi-finals with emphatic 3-1 victory at Old Trafford.
