West Brom leading race Andre Ayew after submitting £7million bid for Swansea City forward
West Bromwich Albion are now leading West Ham United, Brighton and Sheffield United in race to sign Andre Ayew from Swansea City as The Baggies explore within their capacity for the best in the January transfer window in a bid to fight relegation.
West Brom have had a tough season where they currently sit 19th on the Premier League table with just a win, 5 draws and 11 defeats as The Baggies struggle at home continue after their last three games at Hawthorns ending in heavy loss against Aston Villa, Leeds United and Arsenal.
The Baggies’ poor results have already seen Slaven Bilic fired (but has been named manager of Chinese side Beijing Guoan less than a month West Brom sack him) and Sam Allardyce has been appointed at the Premier League outfit since December 16, 2020.
Allardyce who has been tagged ‘savor of clubs from relegation’ and the 66-year old himself has never been relegated from top flight football returned to management after three years of ending spell with Everton, and has been tasked to save West Bromwhich Albion from being relegated to the Championship next season.
The English International has not able to turn things around since signing his shot-term deal at West Brom failing to pick a win in his four Premier League outings so far (3 losses and a draw against Liverpool at Anfield), and has reportedly launch a project- by making ‘strategic reinforcements in the January transfer window- to save West Brom’s season.
The Telegraph reports that The Baggies manager is looking forward to complete a number of ‘short-term’ deals in the opened transfer window and that involve moves for 33-year old Snodgrass and Andre Ayew who has been superb for Swansea City this season.
The report further claims that Snodgrass could be Allardyce’s first January signing with a move for Ayew expected to follow. The Ghanaian International continues to flourish in English football after successful periods with Swans in the 2015-2016 season and West Ham between 2016 and 2018.
The 31 year old versatile man netted 18 times/7 assists across in all competitions for Swansea City last season and has already starter this term on a brighter note grabbing 8 goals/2 assists across competitions to emerge Swansea’s top scorer.
He could be forced with a bid from West Brom to leave the Liberty Stadium before the January transfer window closes according to latest reports from his native country Ghana and England.
West Brom have already registered interest in the Ghanaian winger where they entered in race with Brighton, West Ham United and Sheffield United at the beginning of this season but all clubs failed with transfer deadline day bid claimed by Daily Mail via WalesOnline.
And Ayew’s continual hot form in front of goal has rekindle Baggies’ interest this January with Allardyce seeing the former Marseille man as a ‘real piece of Article’ for his misfiring striking force of Robson-Kanu, Charlie Austin and Callum Robinson who the Republic of Ireland star has scored only two goals even as West Brom’s top scorer.
Albeit Brighton and West Ham United still knee on Ayew this January with his former Swansea City boss Graham Potter desperate to unite with the Ghanaian this time at American Express Community Stadium. It’s understood that West Brom however lead the race to capture the Black Stars captain after Baggies making the first important step to complete the transfer revealed by Ghanasoccernet.
The Baggies have offered Swansea City £7million for Ayew claimed by the Ghanaian outlet, and the South Wale side could be tempted to sell but still hold the point that 31-year old is the main man to drive them into Premier League promotion next term after currently placing second on the Champions table with 43 points, four points behind first placed Norwich.
