“Ismaily was the toughest opponent to play against and I enjoyed their style of play”- Former Ahly striker Flavio Amado

Former Al Ahly striker Flavio Amado has revealed Egyptian Premier League side Ismaily as his toughest opponents he played against during his successful period in Egypt.

The Angolan forward revealed this in an interview with Onsports TV channel where the player was taking a look back during his memorable days with Ahly and experience in the Egyptian League.

“My time with Al Ahly was the most enjoyable period of my footballing career. And I hope to one day coach in Egypt as it will be a great challenge,” Flavio told Onsports TV channel.

“Manuel Jose is closest and most important manager for me, he’s the best manager I’ve ever seen.

“At the beginning people thought I was a bad player but I managed to have a lot of success with Al Ahly. Gilberto and all the other players were always helping me and supporting me.

“I’m very grateful for the Al Ahly fans because they still remember me even though I left ten years ago,” he added.

“Ismaily was the toughest opponent to play against and I enjoy their style of play.

“I scored 70-75% of my goals with my head and my goal against Ismaily that decided the 2009 league champions is one of the most important ones”, he concluded.

Flavio Amado enjoyed a successful period at Cairo ever since joining Al Ahly from Petro Luanda in 2005.

He won four consecutive league titles, two Egypt Cups, four Egyptian Super Cups, three CAF Champions Leagues and three CAF Super Cups.

The 40-year-old made 155 appearances for the African giants, scoring 56 goals and providing 18 assists along the way.
