Change of venue for Asante Kotoko in Caf Champions League as GPL side host Al Hilal in Tamale

Ghana Premier League side Asante Kotoko have had change of venue in their Caf Champions League campaign ahead of Al Hilal clash. 

Kotoko have already made significant statement in the African Champions League after crushing out Mauritanian giants FC Nouadhibou in first preliminary round of the 2019/2020 Caf Champions League.

The Kumasi based side emerged better off Nouadhibou in a 3-1 aggregate score line after first leg ending 1-1 in Nouakchott while the Mauritanian’s failure to honour the second tie due to coronavirus concerns handed Kotoko 2-0 advantage score in Accra.

Kotoko’s progression pairs them with Al Hilal who also defeated Ugandan Premier League champions Vipers in the first preliminary of the competition.

Whiles the game’s first leg was taking place in the Accra Sports Stadium, Confederation of African Football (CAF) has granted permission upon Kotoko request to move their home games starting from clash with Al Hilal to the Northern part of Ghana.

Maxwell Konadu’s side will now host the Sudanese at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium late December as the Ghanaians knee reaching the group stages of the Caf Champions League first time in 14 years.

Hilal emerged superior over a Kotoko side led by Black Stars coach C.K Akonnor in the 2018 Caf Confederation Cup after beating them 1-0 in Omdurman and forced the Ghana Premier aLeague outfits to a 1-1 draw in Kumasi.

The second preliminary round of the African Champions League takes place 22-23 December with interesting matches facing football fans in Africa.

Kotoko fans will hope their club take a sweat revenge over Al Hilal inside 20,000 Aliu Mahama Stadium.
