Eric Tinkler Maritzburg United coach believes they are underdogs ahead of the Telkom Knockout final against Mamelodi Sundowns

Maritzburg United defeated Kaizer Chiefs in the semifinals of the Telkom Knockout at the Mbombela Stadium last two weeks ago to book a final against Mamelodi Sundowns.

Ahead of the final that kick start tomorrow evening, Maritzburg boss Tinkler has reflected on his side semifinals clash against Chiefs and tomorrow’s final at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban against Sundowns.

Tinkler believes his team was the underdogs when Maritzburg met Kaizer Chiefs who have appeared unstoppable this season in the semifinals.

“No definitely, I think we are the underdogs,” he said.

“We were the underdogs against Kaizer Chiefs but we pitched up on the day. We have a lot of belief in ourselves. We worked extremely hard.”

Tinkler believes Maritzburg have to repeat the same kind of performance they produced against Chiefs, and actually even more, if they want to triumph over Sundowns this weekend.

“Now we need to repeat that, against an even bigger team in my opinion,” Tinkler addaed.

Maritzburg United are unbeaten in their last two games drawing against AmaZulu and beating Polokwane City 1-0 last Sunday.
