Former Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Muntari Tagoe close to joining South African Premier Soccer Leagu

Muntari Tagoe, who just left the Baba Yara Sports Stadium October last year is on the verge of joining a club in the South African Premier Soccer League as revealed by South African based soccer agent Ahmed Nuno.

The former Medeama Sporting Club goalkeeper failed to beat off competition provided by Felix Anann at Asante Kotoko that saw the Bulky keeper left Baba Yara Stadium not making more than five appearances. His famous game for the Porcupine Warriors is when he kept the posts against ASEC Mimosas in the Otumfo Cup final in May 2019.

Thanks to first half stoppage time strike from Stephen Nyarko that handed Kotoko the trophy and that was Muntari’s first ever silverware for the Porcupine Warriors before winning the Normalization Committee’s special competition for his second title.

At that crucial period, Tagoe was the second choice to club’s then number one Felix Anann but within a period five months the former Medeama shot-stopper completely fell out of favor at the Garden City, dropping to a third choice after Anann and Osei Kwame.

He later left Kumasi to sign a lucrative deal with Ethiopian side Jimma Aba Jiffar last year October, and has ever established as a key figure for the Ethiopian club despite his side battling relegation.

It is believed that his performance has caught the eyes of several South African Premier League clubs where a move to the ABSA Premiership can happen anytime soon according his  agent Ahmed Nuno. The Ghanaian keeper has in the previous past made attempt to join giants Bloemfontein Celtic in the South African top flight but failed in the process due to differences between the two parties.

“Mohammed Muntari is a good goalkeeper and we are looking for opportunities for him in South Africa,” said Ahmed Nuno, an agent based in South Africa told Soccer Laduma via Ghanasoccernet.

“I took him to (Bloemfontein) Celtic before, but we couldn’t agree with the club on everything, so I took him back to Ghana to Asante Kotoko (at the time).

Despite, a big ABSA Premiership interest, it would be no surprise if Tagoe remains with Jimma Aba Jifar in the Ethiopian Premier League after realizing the keeper’s expensive terms to get a deal done.
