Medeama SC stun Remo Stars FC 1-0 in first leg of CAF Champions League

A nearly balanced game at the Cape Coast saw Medeama SC won 1-0 over Remo Stars.

Ghana Premier League champions Medeama Sporting Club started their African campaign with 1-0 win over Nigerian side Remo Stars Football Club at the Cape Coast Stadium on Sunday.

The home side started the game as the dominant side in what is their first ever appearance in the CAF Champions League though they have had taste of the CAF Confederation Cup in 2016.

They opened the score through Jonathan Sowah in the first half but Remo Stars took possession and controlled the game to the end of the first half. The Nigerians were comfortable playing away from home in what was a best place a team can find itself in CAF Champions League away tie.

That was even evident in the placement of Medeama SC’s 1-0 win in the game.

The hosts started the second half strongly to mark the first half identity but what was lacking was the goal scored by Sowah with this time no Ghanaian to score to replicate what it was in the early spell of the first half.

The Ghanaian side continued to push for the second goal but it seems they were lacking the confidence in final third despite transitions in their won half and the middle.

Remo warmed into the game again but there was no goal for the Nigerians. Remo Stars came close for the equalizer in stoppage time but failed to find the target.

Medeama SC ended the game 1-0 up at the Cape Coast Stadium and will travel to Nigeria next week to face Remo Stars. Ghanaian clubs have become dominant over Nigerian clubs in African inter club competitions.
