OFFICIAL: Bayern Munich sign Real Madrid defender Alvaro Odriozola
Bayern Munich have completed the signing of Alvaro Odriozola from Real Madrid on loan, and the defender will remain at Allianz Arena until the end of the season.
Bayern have defense problems this season, and it’s understood that manager Hansi Flick requested Bayern bosses to sign a defender to solve their defensive crises resulting from many factors including injuries.
The German outfits spotted Odriozola and Barcelona right-back Nélson Semedo as ideal candidates to add up to and energy for Bayern’s defensive unit.
The Reds had been in contact with Real Madrid as they finally settled on Odriozola where the right-back missed Madrid’s training yesterday to increase speculations about his imminent move away from the Santiago Bernabéu.
“He has an option to go and play elsewhere, but it’s not official,” Zidane replied when asked about Odriozola, without specifying a club.”
But that club happens to be Bayern Munich after the Bundesliga champions meet the demands of both Madrid and Odriozola few days ago.
Bayern confirmed the signing of Odriozola in a press release on Wednesday morning.
“FC Bayern Munich have signed Álvaro Odriozola on loan from Spanish record champions Real Madrid until the end of this season. After passing a medical, the 24-year-old right back has signed his contract at Säbener Straße and will begin training with Bayern today”,.
“After internal discussions, we decided to meet the request of our head coach Hansi Flick for defensive reinforcements and decided together on Alvaro Odriozola,” Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said in a statement.
“We are very happy about the commitment and would like to thank those responsible at Real Madrid for the very friendly and cooperative discussions.”
This short move would be a step in right direction for Odriozola’s football career development, where in the Spanish capital, he was completely left out with Zidane preferring Dani Carvajal at right-back.
