Caleb Ekuban rediscovers form ahead of Ghana Afcon qualifier against South Africa as Black Stars held training in Johannesburg

Ghana striker Caleb Ekuban has rediscovered his form in time for Ghana’s crucial 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa on Thursday.

The 27-year-old scored a brace for Trabzonspor in their 4-1 win over MKE Ankaragucu in the Turkish Super Lig at the weekend.

The former Leeds United has endured a frustrating goal drought in recent weeks, prompting special therapy session for the Ghana international amid his declining form.

But Ekuban rediscovered his scoring form right on time ahead of Ghana’s crucial Afcon qualifier against the Bafana Bafana on Thursday.

Trabzonspo has not suffered defeat anytime the Ghanaian has scored, raking in 19 points in the process.

The performance of the striker is on the rise again and will be unleashed by Ghana coach Charles Akonnor for the crucial qualifier against the South Africans tomorrow in Johannesburg.

Meanwhile Black Stars have completed their final training in South Africa after arriving in early hours of Wednesday morning.

The Players, technical staff and management members underwent the mandatory COVID-19 test before heading to FNB Stadium for training.

Ghana face South Africa on Thursday at 4 pm local time. Coach Charles Akonnor’s men need to avoid defeat to secure qualification with a game gainst Sao Tome & Principe in hand three days later.

But, should the Black Stars lose, they can redeem themselves against whipping boys, Sao Tome in Accra on Sunday.

Ghana have nine points – the same as Sudan and South Africa, but the Black Stars remain top of the group due to their better head-to-head record against the two countries.
