Richard Ofori’s Maritzburg reach Telkom final after beating Kaizer Chiefs 2-1 in semifinal

Black Stars keeper Richard Ofori played a crucial role in helping Maritzburg to secure Telkom Knockout final for the first time in their history after leapfrogging Kaizer Chiefs 2-1 in the semifinal at Mbombela Stadium.

It was a much talked about clash in South Africa this weekend as Chiefs were struggling with injuries ahead of this clash. After few intentions of who keeps the posts for Amakhosi, primarily between Bruce Bvuma and returning Itumeleng Khune, former Asante Kotoko gaffer Ernst Middendorp opted for the former in posts.

At the other end, Black Stars first choice keeper Richard Ofori who has been impressive for Maritzburg this season manned the posts for Maritzburg.

Judas Moseamedi put Maritzburg ahead on the half-hour mark after the Maritzburg striker latched onto Daniel Cardoso’s poor back pass before rounding Bvuma to slot into an empty net.

Kaizer Chiefs had been soaking pressure on their opponents for the remaining 15’ minutes, Yagan Sasman drew Chiefs on level tapping in an empty net when it was 12 minutes to full time, after Richard Ofori had exhibited a stunning save to prevent Nurkovic’s initial header from entering the posts.

When it was five minutes to the end of the game, Moseamedi restored Maritzburg’s lead finishing from close range to complete his brace on the afternonn. Ofori was very instrumental for Maritzburg, completing the whole game.
