ZESCO United and Zamalek share the spoils in CAF Champions League after a 1-1 draw in Ndola

Zambia’s ZESCO United were looking ahead to pick their first three points against Zamalek in the CAF Champions League having drew against Primeiro de Agosto in their opener and losing to TP Mazembe at home two weeks ago.

Zamalek on the other hand deemed to step up in rapping up their chances of qualifying to the next phase of the Champions League after collecting their first three points of the campaign against Angolan side Agosto before they headed to Levy Mwanawasa for today’s clash against ZESCO.

However, at the end of the game, both teams shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw in Ndola. The Egyptians got the better of the Zambians as electrifying striker Mostafa Mohamed rose high to head home a perfect cross from the left 72’ minute on the clock.

ZESCO responded quickly as Quadri Aladeokun emerged five later to drew the Zambians on level in a similar fashion. A perfect cross from the left flank saw Aladeokun tap home from a tight angle inside the box.

ZESCO’s draw at home today ensure that all the teams in group A picked only a point in Match Day of the Champions League group stage after the clash between Agosto and TP Mazembe also ended in a 1-1 draw at Angola yesterday.

TP Mazembe leads the group with 7 points, three more points above second place Zamalek and five clear off ZESCO United and Agosto in third and fourth place respectively.
