The Swedish side set to lure Christopher Nettey from Asante Kotoko as move edges closer

Asante could be beaten to the signature of their right-back Christopher Nettey as IFK Goteborg burst into the scene with a bumper offer for the Ghanaian International.

The Swedish Super League side have submitted a region of €100,000-150,000 in exchange for Nettey but the Ghana Premier League side are in evaluation before making any conclusions.

The Ghanaian side are in the rebuilding but have already seen the progress of their project somehow distracted by USM Alger after the the Algerian Premier League side prize away asset Kwame Opoku in $500,000 transfer.

With Nettey attracting interest from Europe, the Ghana Premier League giants could see more depleted project and another big loss before the season ends.

Though their project have seen reinforcement of Michael Vinicius, Andy Kumi and Solomon Sarfo Taylor from Kwame Opoku’s sale, they are just newbies facing the test of integration with their teammates while the three have less impressed with the exception of Kumi who have struck three times since making his debut against Bechem United.

Kotoko could further reinforce with Nettey’s sale money to have their project on track. But Nettey’s transfer first needs to be completed, which according reports, the deal is in very advanced stage.  It’s reckoned that the Swedish outfit have been on the negotiation table with Kotoko over the past two weeks and agreement over already-submitted-offer could be struck in a matter of days.

Goteborg have not enjoyed a smooth campaign to the start of this season, struggling to keep pace with the domestic league where they have managed with middle table position (8th), only a victory, a draw and a lose in three league games so far.

Clubs in the Swedish top flight and who are struggling in the league have planned with their transfer activities amid strengthening their squad to have turnaround in the season. Goteborg have prioritize reinforcements in the shaky defensive line. They have conceded three goals so far having a positive goal difference of one.

The Ghanaian International appears a top target and the Swedish side have already made the all important step to beating competitors to his signature. Kotoko are believed to be appreciable of Goteborg’s offer where they would accept the bid before allowing the 8th placed side to open talking about personnel terms with Nettey.

The 22 year old has been regular for Kotoko since joining in December 2019. Nettey made his Ghana debut in November 2020 in a 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifications doubleheader against Sudan.

This season, he started off well though not as same as the level he showed in last term before the season was finally terminated due to the coronavirus pandemic. He has made 13 appearances so far but changes in the technical department of Kotoko have saw Nettey lost his position to Samuel Frimpong.

Mariano Barreto took over the managerial role from interim boss Johnson Smith in March and since then, Frimpong has been the preferred candidate while Nettey has completely fallen out in the pecking order.

With Nettey hoping to play in next Afcon 2022, more playing time would be much needed factor and Goteborg appears the home to offer Nettey regular football.
