Kaizer Chiefs praise Nigerian keeper Daniel Akpeyi and manager Ernst Middendorp for their 2019 ABSA Premiership contributions

Early this year, Nigerian goal keeper Daniel Akpeyi joined Kaizer Chiefs from Chippa United with less expectation but the injury of Chief’s first choice keeper Itumeleng Khune proved beneficial to the former Chippa United shot-stopper, establishing himself as regular so far under Ernst Middendorp.

The Nigerian keeper has put in some impressive performances for Chiefs over the course of the 2019/20 season, making some big saves – including numerous penalty stops – to make sure that Chiefs end the year on top of the Absa Premiership.

This has forced Kaizer Chiefs Management to recognize individual contributions which the Nigerian keeper together with Chiefs’ boss Ernst Middendorp have been recognized as such for their service to the club.

Kaizer Chiefs Football Manager Bobby Motaung praised the player and the manager together with the entire team during Chiefs’ end of year message to club’s fraternity.

Motaung told the club’s official website, “The team did the business on the field of play – thank you to the team for their hard work. I’m happy for the teamwork as well as outstanding individual contributions.”

“The coach has been recognised on three consecutive occasions as Absa Premiership Coach of the Month. Daniel Akpeyi came to the party when Itumeleng Khune got injured. I’m glad he’s been recognised with Player of the Month accolade.”

Motaung also wished for a better performance in the New Year, and advised the team to work hard to maintain the same energy, spirit and unity they have demonstrated in the year 2019.

“As we close off 2019, let us look forward to the new year with the same energy. The support and the energy from the streets, messages and singing and dancing at the stadium rubbed off the team to perform on the field of play.”

“I wish everyone a happy crossover to 2020. Let the journey continue in the same spirit and unity.”

Chiefs have taken much time off during the festive break as their German coach looks to get them ready for 2020, starting with Saturday’s clash with fellow title-challengers, SuperSport United.
