Adonko Tournament 2023- Trede send delegation to chief place for redemption after loss to Kotwi as team’s key man offers title hopes

Trede team has sent delegation to their place to beg royalty for redemption in their second game after losing first game to neighbouring community Kotwi in the 2023 Adonko inter community tournament at Kumasi Bantama.

After the  two communities met in the quarter-finals of the tournament last season, Trede and Kotwi were sent into the same group of the 2023 Adonko tournament.

Trede triumph over Kotwi last season going the way to lift a silver medal but suffered a shocking defeat to Kotwi in the opening of this season’s Adonko tournament last Monday.

After failing to clear the lines from a corner kick, Kotwi won a penalty after the corner kick taker was brought down in the box following a prolong session in Trede’s box. The spotted no. 11 shirted man Philip Anane calmly sent the ball at the bottom left corner displaying Trede goalkeeper the wrong way.

The defeat reportedly made the Trede team unhappy indifferent form the whole town and palace. But the team have sent delegation to plead on their behalf and have ask for a chance in their second game in the competition.

One of Trede’s key men Charles Appiah expressed moments of title hopes despite the loss to Kotwi.

“We played final last in the last edition of this competition and we are trying to achieve this feat this term but we have lost our first game. We will go home to strengthen, motivate ourselves and prepare for the next game and hopefully win this cup , he told Angel FM one of the media partners and organizers of the Adonko tournament.

” If we couldn’t win the title in last edition we has come stronger for this one though we losing our first game doesn’t dent our title hopes.

“We are here to win the title, I say again”.

What a remarkable confidence shown by Charles Appiah, that was translated on the pitch after Trede were the better side playing with high confidence but were caught laughing at the wrong side of the mouth after 90 minutes.

Philip Anane who fetched the only goal told reporters the victory means a revenge for Kotwi.

“Coming into this game makes it a tricky clash given that they beat us at the quarter-finals last season. We even missed a penalty in our last meeting to this. So coming into this game, we came with pain for a revenge and our purpose of coming for a victory was achieved.

“Wen were awarded the penalty, I calmed down to convert”.

Kotwi coach nicknamed “coach Essien” has said  Kotwi have neared qualification to the knockout stage of the competition.

“Our mentality was to win the game and we got that. All what a team need to qualify is to win. Now that we have won, we are looking for to get two draws to progress.

The Adonko tournament is a fast growing community football competition not only in Ashanti region but the whole of Ghana after organizations and vast mileage in other parts of the country Sunyani, Cape Coast and Takoradi.

Many Ghana football legends Akwesi Appiah, Paa Kwesi Fabian and prominent names in the Ghana Premier League have grace either by playing. watching and officializing in the Adonko tournament.

In Monday’s clash, former Hearts of boss who won two FA Cup titles and the Ghana Premier League, and currently Ghana U-20 coach Samuel Boadu along with Suame National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary aspirant Hon. Frank Owusu-Ansah were special quest to the competition.

Speaking on recognition for the Adonko community tournament, Essien said, it’s superb organization this year. I have been here to watch all matches played under the Adonko tournament but it has been special this season.

“The people who are coming to watch matches for this edition is marvelous. What am asking for right now is God continue to bless my father Dr. Kwaku Oteng- the CEO of Adonko company.

“After the game, I had a call that three of my players have ben called into the national U-20 by Samuel Boadu.

“So the tournament is a good thing for Kumasi”, Essien concluded.
