Mason Mount: Three Lions midfielder completes £60million move from Chelsea to Man United

Mason Mount completes £60million from Chelsea to Man United become United’s first summer signing as Three Lions ace signs 5-year contract at Old Trafford.

The Three Lions midfielder Mason Mount has completed a £60million transfer from Chelsea to Manchester United.

Erik ten Hag’s side have announced the signing of former Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount in a deal worth £60million as the midfielder signs 5-year contract at Old Trafford until 2028.

“Mason Mount has joined Manchester United on a contract running until June 2028, with the option of a further year”, Manchester United announced on their official website.

“The 24-year-old midfielder has made 279 club appearances, scoring 58 goals and contributing 53 assists. The Champions League winner was Chelsea’s Player of the Year for both the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons.”He has 36 caps for England and played a key role in his country’s run to the European Championship final in 2021.”

Mount became a top transfer target for Manchester United after it appeared the midfielder will leave Chelsea after talks for cintract renewal months ago broke down.

Mount becomes one of the host of stars to leave Stamford Bridge this summer with significant number of first team players embarking moves to big money world Saudi Arabia.

N’Golo Kante has left for Saudi side Al-Ittihad , Kalidou Koulibaly to Al Hilal, Édouard  Mendy to Al Ahli while Hakim Ziyech could complete a move to the Saudi Pro League before the end of the transfer window.

Kai Havertz and Mateo Kovacic have chose to remain in Europe following moves to Arsenal and Manchester City respectively. Mount has followed the German and Croatian foot steps sealing a move to Manchester United on Wednesday.

With Erik ten Hag a huge fan of Mount, United submitted an opening bid of £40million but Chelsea rejected the offer. United submitted improved offer that was still rejected due to fall short of Chelsea’ valuation of Mount but came up with a third in the region of £55million plus £5million add-ons that was accepted by Chelsea this week.

Mason Mount becomes United first summer signing after his announcing at Carrington as he readies to train with his new teammates. Mount’s the transfer brings his 18-year association with Chelsea to an end.

After his signing, Mount said, “It’s never easy leaving the club where you grew up, but Manchester United will provide an exciting new challenge for the next phase of my career. Having competed against them, I know just how strong a squad it is that I’m joining, and I can’t wait to be part of this group’s drive to win major trophies.

“Everyone can see that the club has made big steps forward under Erik ten Hag. Having met with the manager and discussed his plans, I couldn’t be more excited for the seasons ahead, and am ready for the hard work expected here.

“I am hugely ambitious; I know how amazing it feels to win major trophies and what it takes to do it. I will be giving everything to experience that again at Manchester United.”

Manchester United football director John Murtough has make a great remark about Mason Mount saying the midfielder is an intelligent player.

“Mason is an extremely intelligent footballer and has so many fantastic technical qualities that will significantly add to our squad.

“We have admired his talents for a long time, so we are delighted that he has chosen to take the next steps in his career here at Old Trafford.

“His style of play and attributes are a perfect fit for this squad, and we all believe that he will only improve further working with Erik ten Hag and his coaching staff.

“Mason himself is a world-class player but he also has the ability to improve the players around him through his game intelligence and tactical awareness.

“We were particularly impressed by his strong desire to join United, and his thirst for further success, as we push to drive up our performance levels next season and beyond.”

Mount helped Chelsea to win the Champions League, Europa League, FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup. He joined Manchester United with a huge legacy in European football.
