Ghana U20 Women’s team the Black Princesses suffered a slim loss in the hands of Austria in their opening game of U20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia on Monday night.

The defeat comes a major blow for the whole nation who have developed great passion for Women’s football in the last decade.

Black Princesses goalkeeper Afi Amenyeku meanwhile remains confident about Ghana qualification and believes will bounce back from the loss to debutants Austria.

Playing in their seventh World Cup, Ghana hoped for a strong start but ultimately succumbed to a 2-1 defeat.

Ghana now face an even more daunting task as they will battle 2018 champions Japan and then, New Zealand to stand a chance of qualifying from the group phase for the first time.

“As a goalkeeper, I would say football is a game of chance. When the opponent gets their chance and utilizes it, that goal is something we could have avoided, but that’s football,” Amenyeku stated after the game.

“Yes, as a team, I think I’m okay. I’m impressed with how I saw my colleagues. We were all determined to win, but unfortunately, we couldn’t get it.

“However, this is not the end of the road. We still have two matches to go, so we are looking forward to that.”

The Ghana U20 side will take on Japan, who thrashed New Zealand 7-0 in the other group game, in their second game Thursday late evening at Estadio Metropolitano de Techo.
