Kai Havertz given new penalty taking duties as Chelsea prepare for Dortmund second leg in Champions League

Chelsea welcome Borussia Dortmund to Stamford Bridge for Champions League round of 16 second leg. Undoubtedly, Graham Potter will be hoping to overturn their 1-0 loss at the Signal Iduna Park two weeks ago.

But Chelsea will  need a much improved performance to go through over the German outfit though there are glimpses after beating Leeds United in the Premier League Saturday in what is Chelsea’s second win in 2023.

They have been boosted ahead of clash with Dortmund after N’Golo Kante and Reece James return to training. Meanwhile, Kai Havertz has been selected as Chelsea’s new penalty taker after Jorginho’s move to Arsenal in January.

Graham Potter unveiled Havertz as Chelsea’s new first-choice penalty taker in pre-match conference on Friday.

The German forward, 23, has only taken one spot kick for the Blues, but it was an important one as he scored in extra time in last year’s Club World Cup final against Palmeiras.

Havertz has some big boots to fill when it comes to duties from 12 yards, as Jorginho scored over 93 per cent of his penalties in a Chelsea shirt.
