Olivier Giroud admits he nearly left Chelsea after ‘six complicated months

Chelsea forward Olivier Giroud has admitted he wanted to leave Stamford Bridge for San Siro in January after falling completely behind Tammy Abraham and Mitchy Batsuayi in the pecking order.

Despite Inter’s interest, Chelsea rejected any move for the Word Cup winner when the Frenchmen have less than six months left on his contract.

“Inter was the priority, and there was also contact with Lazio and Tottenham. But circumstances meant that Chelsea blocked it. It was not my choice.”

The former Arsenal man now has the table turned around for him and seems to enjoying life at Stamford Bridge. He was on target for the top four contenders who walloped Everton 4-0 on Sunday.

Frank Lampard praised Giroud after victory over Everton. “We played to Olivier Giroud’s strengths today and he is ‘playing really well’ at the moment. ‘He is a personality and we need that’
