I am psychologically destroyed – Neymar opens up on exit saying he is paralysed

Neymar has said he’s ‘psychologically destroyed’ and admitted he ‘cried non-stop’ after Brazil’s World Cup exit.

Croatia shocked the tournament favourites with a penalty shoot-out win at the Education City Stadium, booking a semi-final spot against Argentina.

Free-scoring Brazil were stifled in 90 minutes by Croatia before a Neymar wonder goal looked to have won the match in extra time, however, it wasn’t to be.

Bruno Petkovic soon equalised for Croatia, taking the game to penalties, which Neymar didn’t feature in as his side were shut-out by a heroic performance from Dominik Livakovic.

The Paris Saint-Germain striker looked unconsolable on the pitch as he and his teammates slumped to the ground, and a day later, he’s now broken his silence.

Writing to his 192million Instagram followers, Neymar said: “I’m psychologically destroyed.

“This was certainly the defeat that hurt me the most, which made me paralyzed for 10 minutes and right after I fell into non-stop crying. It’s gonna hurt for a loooong time, unfortunately.

“We fought until the end. That’s what I’m proud of my teammates because there was no lack of commitment and dedication.

“It was worth every sacrifice to feel the affection of each one from inside the field…

“Thank you all for your support with our national team. Unfortunately it didn’t work out… it’s gonna hurt for a long, long time.

“Thank you for everything my GOD, you have given me everything so I can’t complain. Just thank you for watching over me.

“All honour and glory are always for you, regardless of the circumstances.”

It’s unclear whether 30-year-old Neymar will continue on to the next World Cup in four years’ time, having previously suggested that Qatar could be his last.

The world’s most expensive footballer was asked again about those thoughts post-match, and said: “Honestly, I do not know. I think talking now is bad because of the heat of the moment. Maybe I’m not thinking straight.

“To say that this is the end would be rushing myself, but I don’t guarantee anything either. Let’s see what happens going forward.”
