Christopher Nkunku supports Eduardo Camavinga, victim of racist abuse

Christopher Nkunku (25), who will miss the Qatar World Cup through injury, has supported his international teammate Eduardo Camavinga (20) after the Real Madrid midfielder was subject to racial abuse.

Nkunku sustained a knee injury, which according to L’Équipe will rule him out for up to two months, after a collision with Camavinga in the final training session before heading out to Qatar. Following the incident, Camavinga was subjected to racist abuse online, prompting a response from Nkunku.

“A thought to my teammate Eduardo Camavinga, who has been unfairly targeted. The World Cup should be a moment of harmony, not of decision,” said Nkunku in a social media post.

Whilst Nkunku won’t feature in France’s World Cup defence, he wished his teammates luck: “Thank you to all the staff and my teammates for their help. I will be your biggest supporter. Make us proud!”

Following Nkunku’s injury, France called up Eintracht Frankfurt striker Randal Kolo Muani (23), who has sent a message to the Red Bull Leipzig forward, wishing him a speedy recovery. France face Australia in their first group-stage game on Tuesday before facing Denmark and Tunisia.
